Antarctica – Voyages and Explorations led by the Best Guides on the Best Expedition Polar ships

To travel to Antarctica is one of life’s one-of-kind experiences like no other. A trip that will awaken senses and leave you mesmerised forever.   A landscape with colossal ice-bergs and sharp snowy peaks that jut out of the sea. The wildlife, the landscape and the epic adventure of being so remote will leave you reeling for months after your return.

Small Expedition ships have been purposefully built and designed to take intrepid travellers to The White Continent through the ice to areas along the Antarctic shore that the larger ships simply cannot access. The aim is to spend the maximum amount of time ashore making the most of the time exploring off the ship.

Showcasing three outstanding Operators in Exploration

Antarctica 21 pioneered the air-cruise exploration taking a flight from Chilean Patagonia to Antarctica avoiding the rough seas which are common when sailing through Drakes Passage. Their polar expedition ships, The Magellan Explorer, The Magellan Discoverer and The Ocean Nova accommodate 76 passengers with 13 expert polar guides, meet the guests on The Peninsula after a short 2 hour flight from Chilean Patagonia. Itineraries range from 6 Days to 18 Days exploring on foot, by zodiac, sea-kayaks and snow-shoe.

Polar Latitudes take their guests on their custom built small polar ship, The MS Seaventure, made for the Antarctic waters with the highest ice-rating. They pride themselves on their state-of-the-art stabilising system providing a safe and comfortable passage even through rough seas. The expedition-led Team are all Explorers by background and they have a strong focus on caring for the environment with their involvement in the Citizen Science project. When you voyage with Polar Latitudes, you’ll enjoy a personalised small ship experience, shared by less than 140 passengers, with an emphasis on getting you up close and personal with Antarctica, in a spirit of shared exploration, improvisation, and discovery.  Their itineraries range from 10 days to 21 days. Additional adventures can include sea-kayaking and camping overnight off the ship.

AE Expeditions, another excellent expedition operator offer exciting adventures on their innovative marine technology Ulstein X-bow ships, The Greg Mortimer, The Sylvia Earle and The Douglas Mawson (setting sail in 2025).  These ships are designed for active expeditions.  Itineraries can include scuba diving, snorkelling, polar plunge, snow-shoeing, sea-kayaking, camping, Shackleton’s Crossing, Stand-up Paddle, Trekking and Climbing, Ski/Snow board Touring as well as all the main wildlife sightings that all the expeditions offer. They are proudly B Corp Certified representing dedication to rigorous standards of verified performance  and commitment to sustainability.  Itineraries range from 12 to 23 days and they also offer departures with one-way (or both ways) flights from mainland Chile if guests want to avoid the Drakes Passage Crossing.
